Opie and Anthony
Opie and Anthony was a radio show that was on air from 1995 until 2014. They broadcasted every day from Manhattan with the funniest comedians of the early 2000’s. I like Stern’s classic era as well, but O&A is more raw and less staged.
I don’t think podcasts can recapture the magic from these old O&A episodes. Maybe because they were live on air. On any given episode you’ll hear them complaining about the FCC censoring the comedians or complaining about democrats being pearl clutchers. But they were by a great margin freer to say whatever they wanted back then.
Some of my favorites:
My all time^ I’ve listened to this many times. This is from 2011 I think. At some point Alex Jones calls in and Louie takes two Vicodin. Poeple call in and talk about how much they love pain pills. I guess this was salad days of the opioid crisis which is crazy to hear now.
^Patrice talks about his preference for Brazilian prostitutes to American prostitutes.
